COVID-19 UPDATES

  • On August 31, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation that prohibits the eviction of tenants based on non-payment of rent until February 1, 2021. This bill is known as AB-3088 and it includes further legal requirements for landlords and tenants to follow.

  • On March 31, 2022, California legislatures approved AB-2179 extending the state’s eviction moratorium through June 30, 2022, for certain tenants who have applied for rental assistance on or before March 31, 2022.

  • On July 1, 2022, California's eviction moratorium expired, but some cities and counties have extended or passed their own eviction moratorium.

  • On July 18, 2022,  California Attorney General issued a stern warning to landlords who attempt to evict tenants through unlawful measures such as changing the locks, shutting off water and electricity, or threatening tenants.
